Hong Kong Fashion Week
In preparation for designing our summer Smitten range we have been researching some international style and looks. We decided to compare out Australian fashion with Hong Kong style.. as they are renowned as a fashion and shopping capital.
We also saw it as a good opportunity to find some inspiration from Asian street style. And inspiration we found! We were amazed at how different their fashion and style was (minus the fact it was their summer and our winter.)
One of the main things we noticed was such confidence in fashion. There was no look too bold or out there. This was a reminder that confidence really is they key to making any outfit look good no matter what you are wearing. One of the keys to confidence in ones outfit is of course comfort and practicality, as no one feels confident wobbling along in 10 inch stilettos like Bambi. Therefore comfort and practicality was at the forefront of summer fashion with almost every outfit paired with some sort of trainer or embellished flat.
Key stand out trends:
RUFFLES... they are already present in Australian fashion and they aren't going anywhere when summer rolls around.
SIMPLICITY... Designs were simple and accessorized by the wearer. Majority of designs were clean cut (apart from the ruffles.)
HIGH NECKS... bare chests were almost impossible to spot and even if a design had a lower cut it usually had a high neck top underneath it. (they are so darn classy)
CUTE... if we could describe the fashion in one word it would be cute. Skirts and dresses were often A-line in shape with nothing too figure hugging.
Here are a few street style looks that stood out to us
The Asian style may be all about the high necks but hem lengths are a different story... it is whatever you feel comfortable with.
Hong Kong fashion VS. Smitten:
After coming back and assessing our range so far there are a few stand out items we have (and wore in Hong Kong) that fit seamlessly into the upcoming season- take a peek:
The Ellie dress featured above in both sandy beach and black pinstripe is exactly what the Asian fashion is about. The high neckline with the hem length just above the knee and 7/8th sleeves is classic, elegant and a little bit fun (plus it has pockets- bonus!)
Our stunning Sofia dress with the ruffle hem is a statement which will take you through summer events in style or dress it down with a jacket and own your look with confidence.
We hope you enjoyed our update on Hong Kong style. We came back more inspired than ever and also with a pair of new white trainers... (we had to fit in.) No more having to change from your runners when you get to work from your morning commute ladies- don't you just love practical fashion..
